This morning I spoke with someone who was planning to launch free training in the tech space to build a community.

He asked me to look at his flyer and banner ads.

I took a look at it and asked him a few questions.

“ Who's this training for?”

“It's for beginners?”

He wasn't sure at first but after a little more probing,we realized it was for beginners.

“ Will they understand this tech word you used in the headline?”

I pointed it out to him and mentioned the word.

The answer was no.

So I asked the last question, how would you explain this headline to a person who never went to school.

He thought it for a few seconds and gave me the stepped down , easy to understand version of the headline.

“ That's the best headline to use “.

And explained why that headline works.

Will help eventually use it?

I don't know. Most people don't use value but free advice given by experts.

Especially other experts who don't understand the value of clarity and the basic principle of copywriting.

What I did for him was just a very basic principle of copywriting.

But it will make the difference.

It'll make the difference between having 10 people show up or 190 show up.
